Ending weeks of speculation, the Parkville Board of Alderman tonight approved the appointment of Christopher Fisher as Ward 3 Alderman.
Fisher, 41, is a partner at the Bryan Cave law firm where he specializes in real estate development law and banking. A resident of The National, this is the first time he has held a public office.
Fisher replaces Jeff Bay who resigned his post at the end of April, citing residency concerns. Bay had moved from the Ward and resigned under pressure following a period of media scrutiny. Stating the desire to be as transparent as possible, Mayor Gerry Richardson did not appoint Fisher outright, instead choosing to interview candidates at a special work session of the Board before tonight's regularly scheduled meeting.
Richardson then recommended Fisher to the board due primarily to the fact that he was a practicing attorney and the Board currently did not have a lawyer among their ranks. Both Bay and recently ousted Ward 3 Marvin Ferguson were attorneys. In comments to the Board, Fisher said he would focus on real estate development and issues of commerce and pledged transparency at City Hall. After the work session was completed, the Board entered a special session where Mayor Richardson nominated Fisher for appointment. He was approved in a unanimous vote.
