Local Luminaries: Carpenters Selected as Honorary Harvest Ball Chairs

The Honorary Chairs for the 2009 Harvest Ball, November21 at the Muehlebach Towers, are Michelle and David Carpenter who have supported many civic endeavors.  In recognition of their service to the community the Carpenters received the 2008 Spirit of Philanthropy Award from the Mid America Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Michelle is a past president of the Harvest Ball Society, a board member of the Family Conservancy and was the first person to receive the Heart of Hospice Award as the outstanding hospice volunteer of the year in the State of Missouri in 2001. Among her many  other honors is the 2008 Humanitarian Award from World Outreach Foundation, an organization that organizes and finances missions to provide medical assistance to underserved communities around the world.  She is a 20-year brain tumor survivor.


David Carpenter, President and CEO of North Kansas City Hospital since 1999 and chairman of the board of the Missouri Hospital Association, was recognized by the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce as Northlander of the Year 2008. In the past 10 years North Kansas City Hospital has given $5.1 million to Northland civic and charitable organizations. The Harvest Ball has received $355,000 from the hospital since 1993.

In 2006 David was Director of the Year, North Kansas City Business Council. Pittsburg State University Alumni Association honored him with the Meritorious Achievement Award in 2008.

 Since the first Harvest Ball was held 23 years ago the organization has given $4.5 million to charities that serve the Northland. This year 37 not-for-profits will receive grants from the Harvest Ball Society.
